First Blood

We had our first audition tonight. Someone who won't be able to make the actual date on Monday April 30th asked to read another time, and so we met up before the Pre-Production meeting.

I was quite badly organised - I'd actually forgotten to take my own copy of the script with me(!) - but with help from TLPA and a bit of muddling through... wow!

It was different to the readthrough as this time it really mattered - and I was making a judgment about someone else rather than myself and my writing. Admittedly, the oration was different to how I hear the characters in my head, but that's to be expected at this early stage - especially with a brand new play which has no precedents.

But what a thrill to see someone giving birth to these characters, really trying to become them, for the very first time - and making me laugh and feel just as the audience will...
