Sweet Thursday

Brilliant.

When this all started out, I could see in my mind's eye how things should eventually play out. And last night, the cast and crew achieved that. There seemed to be something of a slow start, but then something happened - a connection was made between the audience and the actors which propelled things on with a great momentum.

Friends, Romans and Countrymen

Nothing went wrong technically, and when a couple of minor mistakes did occur, cast members helped out their fellow team-mates to ensure no-one would notice. Louis (Chris) even prompted himself at one point(!) and the adorable Kate (Rose) proved herself a true pro when she skillfully maneuvered some luggage which had inadvertently been left behind.

I could have gone home happy at the interval but a sell-out crowd meant it was very busy in the bar so I helped serve a few drinks. And indeed, the second half was well worth sticking around for as something happened which I have never experienced before.

After subtle and restrained applause for Zena (Sue), following her consistent brilliance in the Second Act's downbeat first scene, and as the characters' individual storylines began to resolve, the audience applauded at the end of each subsequent scene. Either they thought the show was over(!) - or maybe it demonstrated that that they had identified and enjoyed all of the stories within the show...

Brilliant.
